Today's Peace Fund Hero of the Week is Michelle Duan, an officer with Measures for the Future's Massachusetts Chapter.

This official 501(c)3 non-profit group is organized completely by high school and college students who study and enjoy playing music. They possess a common desire to share their musical experiences with other young people who have not had the same opportunities as they have. They hope to entertain and inspire these children by traveling to shelters, community centers, and libraries and introducing them to different musical styles and instruments in a fun and approachable way.

Throughout the school year, we teach a curriculum based on giving the children a more in-depth look at musical genres and themes around the world, followed by teaching basic musical concepts and themes like rhythm, timing, note-reading, and more! While teaching, we also use several fun games and activities to help make these musical concepts more understandable and approachable.                                                                                                                                                                 As young musicians, the group feels that they have a unique capacity to engage their audience. They hope that along the way, they can break down the social and cultural barriers between people through the sharing of music each time they play.
