Daniella Cohen

Today's Peace Fund Radio Hero of the Week is Daniella Cohen. If you go to Daniella's website, you'll see that she describes herself as "Sister, Changemaker and Speaker" who is "passionate about spreading education, empathy, and cultural understanding."

A letter changed her life. In fifth grade, she had the idea to write letters to build friendships and learn about other cultures. She wrote to a girl named Suma in Bangalore, India. They have been writing for over 8 years. Suma has inspired the creation of G.I.V.E., a project with the goals of promoting empathy and enhancing education. What started with a letter transformed into an international letter writing organization that strengthens the education of our partner schools through the use of technology.

G.I.V.E. has sent thousands of letters and flip-flops, signed with messages of hope, from schools across the US to schools in India, Uganda and Rwanda. Letter-writing fosters incredible bonds between students despite geographical differences. Their pen pals learn to empathize and interact with a different culture that they otherwise would not have been exposed to.
