On today's show, Adrian and Ethan discuss the youth mental health crisis in America.

Three influential groups of pediatricians and emergency medicine providers are pleading for more support and resources as the number of children and teenagers with mental health concerns overwhelm emergency departments nationwide.

Every year, approximately half a million children with mental or behavioral health conditions are evaluated in emergency departments.

The problems these youth face can tie into major problems found in schools: chronic absence, low achievement, disruptive behavior and dropping out. Approximately 50 percent of students age 14 and older with a mental illness drop out of high school.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-14 and the 3rd leading cause of death among those aged 15-24 in the U.S. Ninety percent of all suicides are due to treatable mental health conditions.
