A junior at TJHSST, Christopher is the founder of Reboot for Youth. The idea for the organization sparked in late 2013 when he was volunteering at a free tutoring program targeting low-income families called GIVE.

“I met this third grader, and he opened up to me about his family’s financial situation,” Cao says. “He told me his family couldn’t provide a computer for homework.”  The lack of technology in this student’s home forced the constant usage of library computers, which does have limited access. After hearing the third grader's story, Cao, who had always had a knack for tinkering with computers, had a thought: Why not refurbish one for him?  So Cao did just that.

Founded by high school students in early 2014, Project Reboot has already impacted many kids throughout the Northern Virginia area. The organization was started based on a firsthand experience with students through a free youth tutoring program who did not have access to a computer throughout the entire year. As a result, using the public library computers was a daily routine and completing homework was inefficient for many. Having a recent hobby of building computers, the founders of Reboot for Youth wanted to combine their advanced knowledge for current technology with their passion of assisting others in the community.

Their Global Reboot efforts have brought technology to Costa Rica, Kenya, Cambodia and Vietnam
