Across the United States, many families don't have the resources to heat their homes on cold nights.

According to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association, 24,000 households in Pennsylvania couldn't heat their homes this winter, a number that was up from the year before. 91,000 families in Iowa received disconnect notices in November. In 2014, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program saw applications rise by 20 percent in Colorado to 29,000; a 7 percent rise in Missouri to 74,000; and a 10 percent rise in Illinois to 140,000.

Its numbers like these that inspired this week's Hero of the Week to found her own charity called Warming Families Makes Cents. Her name is Anna Murphy, and her efforts have helped many families over the years and earned her many honors, including the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes. Anna is joining us today to talk about what she does and how she does it.
