On today's show, Adrian and Ethan discuss keeping our kids safe and tips for preventing injuries during these summer months.

Preventable injuries are the #1 killer of kids in America. Millions more children are injured every year.

According to the CDC, approximately 12,000 children and young adults, ages 1 to 19 years, die from unintentional injuries each year. When a child dies, the lives of families are changed forever.

Each year in the United States, about half a million kids are seriously injured in bicycle-related accidents, and most of those injuries could have been avoided. On the playground, children are more likely to get a concussion or other serious brain injury when using monkey bars, climbing equipment and swings.

Participation in sports offers tremendous social, emotional and physical benefits for children. With an estimated 25 million scholastic, and another 20 million organized community-based youth programs in the United States, the opportunity for injury is enormous.

This is why sports injuries are the second leading cause of emergency room visits for children and adolescents, and the second leading cause of injuries in school.

With the 4th of July just around the corner, it’s a great time to talk about Fireworks safety. We all know that fireworks are fun and young kids look adorable holding those sparklers. Unfortunately, fireworks can cause serious injuries to children, including devastating burns and other injuries.
